Registration: Members: $60.00 Non-Members: $75.00 Materials: Family Bible Torah Study Participate in a stimulating discussion on what an important role Torah plays in our lives today as this class continues its study of Leviticus. Led by Rabbi Lipson Sundays, 9:15 - 10:00 AM, October 30 - May 7. Introduction to Judaism / Conversion This will be a 10-week survey of Judaism, its holidays, rituals, beliefs, customs and history. A text will be used in addition to handouts and other materials. This class is for Jews who wish to learn more about their faith as well as for Non-Jews, on a spiritual or intellectual quest. This course is a pre-requisite for participants interested in possible conversion to Judaism. Taught by Rabbi Lipson. Wednesdays, 7:00 - 8:00 PM, October 26 - January 25. Registration: Members: $50.00 Non-Members: $75.00 Materials: $20.00 The Book of Legends To read Torah or the Bible without midrash, the rabbinic interpretation of the text, limits the student in his/her understanding of deeper levels of meaning in its words. This six week course of study will take some of the most famous biblical passages and see them through the eyes of the Rabbis of a millennium ago, the authors of midrash and aggadah. The requirements for the class are a sense of humor, a good imagination and a desire to learn. Knowledge of Hebrew or of the bible is NOT a requirement. Six-week session - Wednesday, February 8, 15, 22, March 1, 8, 15 7:00 - 8:00 PM Registration: Members: $18.00 Non-Members: $36.00 Kabbalah - What Does Madonna think she knows that you don't? What is all the hype about and why at this time? Does it reflect something about Kabbalah or does it say something about American society? This two week survey of the Kabbalah, part of the mystical tradition of Judaism, will include reading and discussing some of the texts found in the mystical writings of the Zohar and other books and what they mean for us today. Two-week session - Wednesday March 22, 29 7:00 - 8:00 PM Registration: Members: $18.00 Non-Members: $36.00 Once Upon A Story This four week class will be an opportunity to read and discuss some of my favorite Jewish short stories and pieces of Jewish literature culled from the sweep of our people's history. From traditional texts to science fiction and everything else in between, I have laughed, cried and celebrated the human spirit through the words of the people of the book.
